Smile it forward…:)

Happy “Tooth-Day”!

Farah Flossit here, hoping you all had a blessed holiday weekend!

Last year, I listed some potential New Year’s “Denta-lutions” (make sure to read it if you missed out on it last year) to help your family get a healthy jump start, but this year, I would like to provide some ideas on how to “Smile it Forward” while your kiddos are on break.

Many people donated toys and gifts to the less fortunate during the holiday season, but another great idea is to find a local homeless shelter or orphanage to visit or donate unopened hygiene products.

Toys are fun, but staying healthy is of the utmost importance.FIREWORKS

Encouraging a healthy smile can be done on a budget by visiting your local dollar store.  You can set a budget of $20 and help 20 less-fortunate children and adults keep their teeth and gums healthy.  If you are able to splurge just a little more, remember to include tooth brushes, floss and even some mouth wash.

After receiving plenty of gifts and giving plenty of new toys to your children, now is a good time to get rid of the old and re-gift to those in need.  Make this your “spring cleaning” and start the New Year free of clutter and feeling good about giving back.

Let your kids learn by example.

Helping others and spreading a healthy message to those that are less fortunate feels good and is the right thing to do.  Bring smiles to others as a family.  Be kind to others and Smile it Forward!

‘Twas The Night Before Christmas: Mouth Monsters’ Edition

Happy “Tooth-Day”!

Farah Flossit here…wishing you and your loved ones a Very Merry time of year!

With Christmas around the corner (just 5 days away) we as parents are always looking for ways to get them to behave and not get on the naughty list before Santa’s arrival. Courtesy of the AAPD, I’d like to share a very cute story (Mouth Monster version) for you to share with your little ones.

It’s no secret that children love to receive toys for Christmas, but the best present you can give your little one this holiday season is the gift of a bright and healthy smile!

Read our Christmas tale to learn how to best fend off the naughty Mouth Monsters and prevent tooth decay:

Let’s “Take 5”!

Happy “Tooth-Day”!

Farah Flossit here… I hope you are having a blessed day. 🙂

Today, I’d like to “take 5” to give you 5 benefits for good oral health that go beyond having a beautiful smile.

If your child has healthy teeth, they are less likely to:

  1. Suffer from chronic strep throat and ear infections
  2.  Need expensive dental treatments
  3. Suffer from speech development or early learning issues

And more likely to:

  1. Attend, concentrate, and succeed in school
  2. Have healthy self-esteem

I’ve mentioned these 5 benefits as primary motivators to be proactive and encourage your child to keep up with their dental hygiene habits.  As always, Casa Smiles is a fun and joyful place, but during the Holidays it’s extra jolly!

Call us to make your appointment today, before the holiday break and see what our office elves are up to! Give you family the best holiday treat by providing them with the best oral care.  We can’t wait to hear if your little ones have been naughty or nice and help them send a special letter to the North Pole!

How to host a “Smarty-Tooth” Slumber Party!

Happy “Tooth-Day”!

Farah Flossit here, wishing you all a very beautiful day!

During this time of year, our kids have quite a few days off and often ask to plan some play-dates or even sleepovers. The number one item forgotten when going to a sleepover is a TOOTHBRUSH. So today I’d like to guide moms and dads to help host a fun and healthy gathering with oral hygiene in mind.

In preparation for this ultimate fun fest, my suggestion is to be prepared.  Making each one of your guests feel special and welcomed is half the battle.  Make sure to have a goodie bag ready to go for each one of your guests inclusive of a toothbrush, floss, healthy snacks, sticker, lip balm, and fun props! It might be a good idea to have your child find out favorite colors to personalize each bag.

We currently live in a digital age where one can expect for there to be lots of selfies taken.  This is where you step in to say that to take great pics, we need a clean and healthy smile.  Below are some Free printable that I came across that would be great for your special gathering:)

As for keeping a healthy menu, one of the most popular sleepover foods is Pizza. Pizza is actually one of the easiest to make into a healthy choice-you can go with a whole grain option that has low-fat cheese. Popcorn and goldfish are also healthy snacks!

Other important tips include finding out about any food allergies and making sure your special guests are really ready to stay away from home for the night.  Have fun and safe activities planned to keep your overnight campers happy!

Amazon Smile:)

Happy “Tooth-Day’!

Farah Flossit here…wishing you all a Peaceful and Happy Thanksgiving Weekend!

During this time of year most of us will be doing a lot of shopping. It has become more common and convenient to shop online, even for “Black Friday”!  One of my favorite online shops is Amazon and recently, I came across some very interesting shopping information that I am excited to share!

AmazonSmile is a simple and automatic way for you to support your favorite charitable organization every time you shop, at no cost to you. When you shop at smile.amazon.com, you’ll find the exact same low prices, vast selection and convenient shopping experience as Amazon.com; with the added bonus that Amazon will donate a portion of the purchase price to your favorite charitable organization. You can choose from nearly one million organizations to support.

What better way to shop then to knowing you are helping a good cause.

When I read about this, I was thrilled that it can be so easy to give back this holiday season just by doing my regular shopping.  I really encourage you all to read the details and participate- it’s easy and I promise, it will make you feel even better about all of your spending.  And for those that usually don’t shop on Amazon, you will be doubly impressed by both the usual perks and this generous program. It’s a one-stop-shop for ANYTHING you are looking for! Check it out!

You shop. Amazon gives.

  • Amazon donates 0.5% of the price of your eligible AmazonSmile purchases to the charitable organization of your choice.
  • AmazonSmile is the same Amazon you know. Same products, same prices, same service.
  • Support your charitable organization by starting your shopping at smile.amazon.com

Thankful for our TEETH, so we can eat our Feast!

Happy “Tooth-Day”!

Farah Flossit here, feeling grateful!

One of my favorite holiday meals is fast approaching and I would like to remind you all of some tips and great ideas for keeping your little ones busy while you do your meal prep!

On Thanksgiving day, there are many little things we can do to be thankful for our dental health.

  • We can start off by staying hydrated: It is always a good idea to drink lots of water, but especially when you are eating lots of rich, sweet foods.  Hydration can also help wash away debris and prevent plaque formation.
  • Staying busy to stay away from snacking all day long!  Below you will find some great activities that can be done with simple household items and that will involve the family giving thanks.
  •  Remember to Brush and Floss: If you are not hosting this year’s grand celebration, make sure to bring your toothbrush and floss with you.
  • Finally, the best act of kindness you can do to truly give thanks to your teeth is to schedule your Post-Holiday Cleaning Appointment.

The holiday season is the easiest time to forget to maintain those great oral health habits, so make sure to show your teeth some love since they work so hard all year long and especially on holidays like Thanksgiving. Having beautiful, healthy teeth is certainly something to be thankful for this holiday season! I hope you and your family have a happy and healthy Thanksgiving!
