Let’s get Pik-ey

Happy “Tooth-Day”!

Farah Flossit here, wishing you well on this lovely day in September.

If you have a teen with braces, you know how much work it is to keep their teeth clean.  Brackets and wires make flossing and keeping your teeth free from extra food particles very challenging.  So today I would like to remind parents of a great solution that is very useful for those with braces and the whole family.  Water flossing is perfect for anyone with braces, implants, those with crowns, bridges, and veneers.

Water flossing provides a unique combination of water pressure & pulsation to clean deep between teeth & below the gum line, removing harmful bacteria & debris that traditional brushing & flossing can’t reach.  New pulse-modulation technology gives you customized water pulsation for the best possible cleaning.  Water flossing provides maximum plaque removal & enhanced gum stimulation.

Reasons to Water Floss:

  • Easy. Just point the flosser tip between your teeth and along the gum line, and let it do all the work for you.
  • Fast. Water Flossing takes only a minute a day, making it easy to improve your oral health and enjoy the cleanest, freshest mouth possible.
  • Effective. Water flossing removes the plaque and debris lurking deep between teeth and below the gumline, where it’s hard to reach with traditional brushing and flossing.

When your little ones become a little bit independent with brushing & flossing, you can help them by getting them a Kids water flosser.  The ones for kids are custom models with a small & simple design that makes flossing easy for children ages 6 & up.  The one by Waterpik features an extra safe, kid-proof electrical design, and easy fingertip controls.  It also includes a special Orthodontic tip.

At your visit to Casa Smiles make sure to ask our friendly front desk team about all of the Water flossing options we offer.  Any clinical questions can be answered by our amazing Orthodontist or Pediatric Dentists.

Thank you for tuning in on today’s Happy “Tooth-Day’s” report!

Are you maximizing your dental insurance benefits?  Did you know that you can save on future dental appointments for your children?  Many dental insurance plans cover sealants for children.  Often times, parents aren’t even aware that they can maximize what their insurance offers by scheduling their kids for sealants.  Sealants are applied as a preventative measure and they will save you lots of additional expenses in the future.  How will sealants save you money?  Well, filling cavities are much more expensive than having sealants done.  Sealants can protect baby teeth and permanent teeth.  As opposed to sealants, fillings for cavities are typically not fully covered & usually have a deductible that has to be met before coverage.

If you don’t know what your insurance covers, now is the time to find out.  You can even ask your Dental Office, as they usually find out when they call to verify you insurance.  Why not use the benefits you are already paying for and in turn, maintain healthy smiles for the entire family.

According to the AAPD, the best way to prevent cavities is to brush each morning & night & floss daily, but sometimes little teeth need a little extra help from dental sealants.  Sealants are thin plastic coatings that prevent food & bacteria from getting stuck in the grooves of back teeth, helping to  avoid cavities.  Many parents might think sealants are only for big teeth, but baby teeth can benefit from sealants too!  Cavities can be common in little teeth, with 6 out of 10 children experiencing a cavity by age 5.  In fact, unrelated cavities in baby teeth can spread & cause decay in other teeth–including permanent teeth.  As mentioned before, remember that dental sealants are most effective with regular brushing, flossing, regular visits to the dentist, & a proper diet.

Another plus to dental sealants is that your visit to the dentist for this type of appointment is, PAINLESS!  It may taste a little funny for just a little while, but with as fun as visiting the dentist can be, getting dental sealants should be a breeze!

Week 3: Second Molar Triumphs Over Tartar the Terrible, Shows Off Healthy Oral Routines

Happy “Tooth-Day”!

Farah Flossit here, wishing you well!:)

3RD MATCHUP

Taking on a Mouth Monster is a cinch for a Second Molar with Healthy Oral Routines. Executing moves he learned in practice with a Pediatric Dentist, the victorious tooth dodged sugary foods and drinks and chose tap water for his water bottle instead. The Mouth Monsters feasted on sour gummies, but Second Molar avoided sticky situations on the court and in his lunch box. He munched on carrots and apples to keep his oral care game fresh and clean between brushing.

MATCHUP

A little fluoride every day went a long way for First Molar in today’s Mouth Madness matchup. Ranked #1 in cost-effective ways to prevent tooth decay and a favorite play among Pediatric Dentists, strengthening teeth with fluoride is a smart strategy for little molars everywhere.
Tooth D.K. has stepped on the oral care court many times – tooth decay is one of the top chronic infectious diseases among children in the U.S. – but with a fluoride-focused game plan, its victories are nearly 100% preventable.

Happy “Tooth-day”

Let me begin by introducing myself,…My name is Farah Flossit.  I am proud to be the official Casa Smiles blogger and your friendly neighborhood plaque-fighting agent .  Every “Tooth-day” I will be filling you all in on all the latest news about Casa Smiles and helpful information to keep your smiles bright.

For our FIRST post, I thought it would be a great idea to let you know where Casa Smiles came from and what we are all about.  We are a Pediatric Dentist & Orthodontic office with 2 convenient locations in Coral Gables and Key Biscayne.  The practice was actually founded by Dr. Luis Llamas over 30 years ago.  In 2012 Dr. Maigrely Abreu-Hernandez and Dr. Muriel Iwanowski acquired the practice.  They had both been working along side Dr. Llamas for a number of years and although he was passing the torch to a new generation, he has remained as an important member of our Casa Smiles family.

The female dynamic duo had a very specific concept in mind when creating a brand and logo for their new home away from home.  With the help of the creatives over at Inkberries, they were able to put together a name and visual that depicted the qualities both doctors wanted their practice to stand for: Clean, Fresh, Friendly, Modern, Fun, and Inviting. “CASA SMILES”  can relate to both dentistry and orthodontics and the name definitely appeals to our hometown demographics and children.  We truly feel that our beautiful logo leaves a strong and lasting impression.  When people in the community see it, they recognize it and they are able make a firm connection between our brand and the experience they have had visiting our office.

THE EXPERIENCE:

In order to fully understand what to expect when visiting Casa Smiles, I need to tell you a little bit more about our amazing leaders and who they really are.

Dr. Maigrely Abreu-Hernandez  is a home-grown Cuban-American  Miami girl that graduated from the University of Florida.  It wasn’t until her second year in Dental school that she discovered her affinity to Pediatrics after going on missions to the Dominican Republic and Haitian borders.  She used her craft and donated her services to orphans and underprivileged families to help them improve their poor dental health.  Dr. Abreu-Hernandez’s goal is to provide quality service.  She has an uncanning ability to implement effective behavior management.  She actually identifies with the kids and really enjoys singing Disney tunes and chatting with them.

Dr. Iwanowski  was born in Venezula and moved to Miami in 1992.  She graduated from Nova University and wanted to get into this field to help give children and adults more confidence by improving their smile and boosting their self-esteem.  She really loves seeing her patients grow and building personal relationships with them.

It is always beneficial to have both dentistry  and orthodontics  in one practice; this way, concerns can easily be communicated and addressed.  We take pride in preparing our pediatric patients for their orthodontic consultations to make sure they are on the right path from an early age. We have created an aesthetically pleasing environment that caters to children and parents. In our inviting waiting area we have interactive iPads and while in treatment, TV’s with headphones to make their visit relaxing and enjoyable. While moms and dads wait for their children to be seen, or are here for their own orthodontic visit, they can enjoy complimentary water, coffee, tea, or even hot chocolate. When checking out at our front desk with our friendly team, we reward our patients with a prize from our Treasure Box and offer our big kids pencils and chapstick.

We want to make sure that we leave all of our patients and parents alike with a lasting impression and a desire to visit us again soon.  We hang our hats on being a modern and fun pediatric dentistry and orthodontics office!

In sum, when you visit us, you become part of the Casa Smiles family!

I look forward to chatting with you again next “Tooth-day”!

Your friend,

Farah Flossit
